Pastor Jen's Jottings
I enjoy hearing a good story and sharing a good story. One story I often hear from members is the reminiscing over Wild Flower's beginnings through the life of Riverside church and how Riverside received its beginning through the Sunday school started in that neighborhood by members of First Presbyterian Church Sioux Falls. I enjoy the stories of how many children attended and the teachers who were there to share the stories of God and of Jesus and of God's people. The Body of Christ reaching out a hand to gather in the child upon the laps of those who can tell the stories. It's important to continue to tell the stories today and to invite new children onto the laps of those who tell stories about God and God's Son, Jesus and what it means to be a community that Lives His Love.
The words of Scripture found in Deuteronomy 6:6-7 and Luke 18:15-17 are profound reminders of God's heart for children. The Lord God has given to us the responsibility to teach all children God's stories and words to live by, making certain that not one is turned away. We are also reminded that it is with the heart of a child that one enters the kingdom of heaven. May you be encouraged and emblazoned by the Holy Spirit to become involved in telling the old, old story of Jesus Christ to a child this year. You can do so during VBS, Sunday School, deaning at the Presbyterian Camps, leading Youth Group, Mission Trip, a Sunday chat, or on a Sunday in Time with Children. Share God's story alive in you with a child today.
